Frequently asked questions
The questions that show up most in my DMs. I'll answer honestly — including the parts that aren't the answer you were hoping for.
Safety & trust
Is Moomoo safe? Is it a scam?
Moomoo Malaysia is operated by an entity licensed by the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC). That means there's a local regulator overseeing it — not some platform from nowhere you can't complain to if something goes wrong. You can check any broker's license status on the SC's official website. But remember: a licensed broker means the platform is supervised, not that your investment is guaranteed to profit.
If Moomoo shuts down, what happens to my money?
The stocks you buy are registered under your own name through a custodian system, kept separate from the broker company's operating money. So your assets aren't part of the company's own funds. This is standard practice for licensed brokers. For the specific protection details, read the account terms in the app — don't take anyone's word for it wholesale, including mine.
Why does Daus promote Moomoo?
I use Moomoo myself to invest, and I have a referral program with them — when you sign up through my link and deposit, I earn a referral commission. It costs you nothing extra. I try to be honest about what's good and what's annoying about the platform — if I praised everything, that would be an ad, not a tutorial.
Opening an account & KYC
How old do I need to be to open an account?
You need to be 18 or older with a valid Malaysian IC to open an individual account. The KYC process will ask you to upload your IC and complete a selfie verification.
How long does KYC take to get approved?
Usually 1–2 working days if your documents are clear. What usually slows it down: a blurry IC photo, poor lighting, or a name on the form that doesn't match your IC. Take the photo in good light and make sure every corner of the IC is visible.
I already registered without using Daus's link. Can I change it?
Unfortunately no. A referral link only works during new account registration. If you already registered on your own, you can still use Moomoo as normal — you just won't qualify for the new-user reward through that referral campaign.
Deposits & withdrawals
What's the minimum deposit?
To start investing, there's no high minimum — you can start small. But to qualify for the new-user reward campaign through Special Deposit, the minimum is RM1,000 and that capital has to stay in for 60 days.
How do I withdraw money? Is it hard?
Not hard at all. Go to the withdraw section in the app, pick your Malaysian bank account (the name has to match your Moomoo account name), enter the amount, and confirm. The money usually arrives within 1–3 working days depending on your account type and currency. If your money is in USD, there's a currency conversion step first.
Are there any hidden fees?
The main charges you'll come across: brokerage commission when you buy/sell, a platform fee, and market-related fees (like stamp duty for Bursa, or regulatory charges for US stocks). There's also a currency conversion spread when you convert RM to USD. The fee structure changes with campaigns and market type — check the "Fees" page in the app for current rates before making a large transaction.
I have a problem with my account. How do I contact Moomoo?
In the app, open Discover → Me → Support → Online Inquiry for live chat. MooBot (an AI) answers first; type "live agent" a few times to join the queue for a human agent. Phone +603 9212 0708, email support@my.moomoo.com. Live chat and phone are open 24 hours on working days, and 9:30am to 9:30pm on weekends and public holidays. Moomoo will never ask for your password, OTP or PIN.
New user reward
How do I get the RM1,500 reward?
In short: register through the referral link, complete KYC, search "Special Deposit" in the app, enter code DAUSDK37, deposit RM1,000, and keep that capital in for 60 days. Then claim it under 'My Rewards'. The full step-by-step with screenshots is on the reward page.
Does the reward come in automatically?
No. After the 60-day period, you have to go to 'My Rewards' yourself and tap claim. A lot of people miss it because they assume it arrives on its own — set a reminder in your phone's calendar.
Learning & practicing
I'm scared of tapping the wrong thing. Is there a way to practice first?
There is — it's called paper trading. You get play money in the app and can buy/sell at real market prices with zero risk. It's the best way to get comfortable with the order screen before you use real money.
What stock should I buy?
I can't answer that for you, and anyone who answers confidently without knowing your financial situation is someone you should be skeptical of. What I can do is show you how to use the tools in Moomoo to screen and research on your own. The content on this site is educational, not investment advice.
